WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Women in Nepal face social, economic and physical discrimination. they generally have less access to property, income, inheritance and credit, and often have little control over the household earnings. They are statistically less educated and more likely to be engaged in non-skilled work than in professional, technical and management related jobs. Women’s contribution to agricultural production in Nepal equals to over 60%, however the total land holdings attributed to women are only 8%.

The tourism sector of our area is growing, with a demand for local, authentic products and experiences. We strongly felt it was necessary to connect the local women to the tourism industry by helping to develop their skills and providing opportunities for earning an independant income.

HOW WE DO IT

The construction of our multi-purpose building provides local women with a chance to learn new skills such as sewing, knitting, jewelry making and handicrafts, and provides a retail space where their items can be sold. It also serves as a space for tourists to collaborate, volunteer, and learn about community and traditional practices.

The building is also used as a rehabilitation centre for local people in case of emergencies, temporary health posts and community meetings. it is run entirely by local people, with international volunteers offering support as needed.
